Overview
The Appletree Jazz Freestyle Wing Foilboard is a purpose-built freestyle wing foil board from Dutch shaper Appletree Surfboards. Designed around aerial maneuvers — jumps, spins, and rotations — the Jazz uses an ultra-compact planform that keeps swing weight low and volume concentrated forward. Each size in the range adds roughly one inch in length per 10-liter volume step, maintaining a short, wide outline that prioritizes rotational speed over outright glide. The board is built in the Netherlands using Appletree's full carbon fiber construction and their proprietary 50K closed-cell foam core.
A defining feature of the Jazz is the recessed front-foot standing area, which positions the rider at a steeper angle relative to the foil while allowing extra rocker and volume in the nose. The tail section transitions from rounded rails at the nose to hard, abrupt edges near the kick, helping the board release cleanly during landings. An elongated flat section on the bottom around the foil connection point extends the planing surface, improving waterstart ability and light-wind pump-ups despite the compact dimensions.

Who It's For
The Jazz targets intermediate to advanced wing foilers who are actively progressing through freestyle tricks — from first jumps and basic rotations up through frontside 360s and beyond. Its sinker-style volume distribution rewards riders who are already comfortable with waterstarts and foil pumping; the compact outline becomes an advantage once airborne but asks more of the pilot during uphauling and transitions. Heavier riders or those wanting a light-wind freestyle platform can size up to the 90 L, while experienced riders in stronger wind can ride the 42.5 L or 50 L well below their body weight.
Condition-wise, the Jazz works across flat water and moderate chop, with the soft nose rocker and rounded forward rails absorbing re-entries and reducing catch risk on off-axis landings. It is not intended as a wave-riding or freeride cruiser — riders looking for that versatility would be better served by a more general-purpose shape.
In the Lineup
Within Appletree's wing foil range, the Jazz sits as the dedicated freestyle specialist alongside the Appleslice series, which serves as the brand's all-around wing foil platform. The Appleslice — now in its V4 iteration — covers a broader spectrum from beginner progression through freeride and wave riding, while the Jazz narrows its focus to trick-oriented flying. Riders often pair both boards in a quiver: an Appleslice for everyday sessions and the Jazz for dedicated freestyle days.
In the wider market, the Jazz competes with other compact freestyle-oriented wing boards such as the F-One Rocket Air and the Fanatic Sky Free. Its full-carbon construction and Futures track-box foil mount put it at the premium end of the category. The current pricing on remaining stock represents a notable value relative to comparable carbon freestyle boards from other European manufacturers.
