Overview

The Armstrong A+ System High Aspect (HA) Foil Package is a complete hydrofoil setup built around Armstrong's current-generation HA front wing series. Sold as an assembled A+ System kit, the package pairs one of four high-aspect front wings — the HA580, HA680, HA780, or HA880 — with a choice of Armstrong's V2 or Performance carbon mast and the brand's carbon-and-titanium fuselage and stabilizer hardware. Armstrong designed the HA line for surf foiling, wing foiling, and downwind foiling, targeting intermediate to advanced riders who want long glide, efficient pumping, and responsive turning in a single platform.

The A+ System is Armstrong's proprietary modular connection architecture. A solid titanium core runs through the fuselage, shrouded in a carbon tube, while a multi-wing HEX fitting joins the mast and front wing with 360-degree surface contact. Titanium and 316L stainless steel hardware locks everything together, and the mast-to-board interface uses a bidirectional titanium washer and T-nut system for corrosion-free mounting.

Key Specs

  • HA580 front wing: 580 cm² area, 780 mm span, 10.5 aspect ratio
  • HA680 front wing: 680 cm² area, 828 mm span, 10.0 aspect ratio
  • HA780 front wing: 780 mm area, 877 mm span, 9.86 aspect ratio
  • HA880 front wing: 880 cm² area, 923 mm span, 9.68 aspect ratio
  • V2 mast lengths: 72 cm and 85 cm
  • Performance mast lengths: 725 mm, 795 mm, and 865 mm
  • Front wing construction: Toray high-modulus and intermediate-modulus carbon fiber
  • Fuselage core: Solid titanium with 5 mm carbon tube wall
  • Connection system: A+ System HEX fitting with titanium/316L stainless hardware

Who It's For

The HA package suits intermediate to advanced foilers who ride across multiple disciplines — prone surfing, winging, and open-ocean downwind runs. The current-generation HA wings are notably more forgiving than Armstrong's earlier high-aspect designs, making the step up from mid-aspect foils more accessible for progressing riders. That said, riders who are still learning to pump and stay on foil will find a mid-aspect wing easier to manage; the HA line rewards those who already have solid foil control and want more glide per pump stroke.

Smaller wings in the range (HA580, HA680) favor heavier wind and faster conditions where a compact, stiff foil keeps speed manageable. The HA780 and HA880 cover a broader sweet spot — enough lift for lighter wind and smaller swells, with the turning authority to handle powered-up sessions. The mast choice further tunes the setup: the shorter V2 72 cm works well in shallow reef breaks and smaller surf, while the longer Performance masts suit deep-water downwind and wing foiling where extra ride height and stiffness pay off.

In the Lineup

Within Armstrong's catalog, the HA line sits above the all-purpose MA (Mid Aspect) series and below the speed-oriented CF (Carbon Fiber race) foils. It replaced the previous-generation HA front wings (e.g., the HA925), and Armstrong suggests riders sizing down by roughly one step from the old range — an HA880 covering similar territory to the former HA925. The mast tier creates a clear price split: V2-equipped packages start around $2,580, while Performance mast builds push past $3,000, reflecting the Performance mast's higher-modulus carbon layup, increased stiffness, and reduced-drag fuselage connection.

Shoppers cross-shopping complete high-aspect packages in a similar price bracket may also look at the Axis HPS or the Uni HA series. Both share the same multi-discipline design intent — prone, wing, and downwind on one foil — though Armstrong's eight-size HA range and modular A+ System give riders unusually fine-grained options for dialing in wing area and mast length to their weight and conditions.
