Overview
The Armstrong A Wing XPS is a performance-oriented inflatable wing designed by Armstrong Foils for wing foiling across a broad range of conditions. Built around what Armstrong calls the Cross Panel Sail (XPS) design, the wing's canopy panels are arranged diagonally rather than in a conventional layout, which reduces distortion under load while improving frame rigidity. The canopy incorporates pre-twist geometry and an airfoil-shaped profile intended to deliver efficient forward drive and strong upwind performance. Removable carbon fiber battens along the trailing edge help control flutter, and can be tuned to suit different wind strengths. Armstrong's proprietary Hybrid Carbon Handle (HCH) pairs a rigid carbon interior skeleton with a soft padded exterior, aiming for a stiff yet comfortable grip. The A Wing XPS ships with a carry bag, wrist leash, spare battens, and a patch kit.

Who It's For
The A Wing XPS suits intermediate to advanced wing foilers who prioritize precision, upwind ability, and efficient power delivery over raw grunt. Its tight, low-flutter canopy rewards riders who want to link technical maneuvers, chase speed, or work upwind without excess drag. The eight-size lineup — spanning 2.2 m for high-wind conditions up to 6.1 m for lighter days — means riders can build a quiver that covers roughly 9 to 40 knots across multiple wings.
That said, the wing's forgiving power delivery and wide per-size wind range also make it accessible to progressing riders moving beyond their first wing. Lighter pilots in particular may appreciate the low weight across the range (starting at 2.15 kg for the 2.2 m), which keeps handling manageable during water starts and transitions.
In the Lineup
Within Armstrong's wing catalog, the A Wing XPS sits as the brand's core all-around performance wing. Armstrong also offers the XPS Lightwind model — a dedicated light-wind variant with larger sizes extending to 7.0 m — and the X-Wing, a performance-focused design targeting speed and racing applications. The A Wing XPS occupies the middle ground: versatile enough for freeride, wave, and freestyle use without the specialization of either sibling.
Armstrong has since released the A-Wing XPS Mk II, which updates the platform with a revised handle system (the Dyna-Link, offering interchangeable carbon handles or boom setup) and refinements aimed at greater stability and upwind speed. The original A Wing XPS remains available at a reduced price point, making it a competitive option against wings like the Duotone Slick and Ensis Score in the mid-tier performance category.
