Overview

The Armstrong Surf Foilboard is a purpose-built prone surf foil board from Armstrong Foils, designed from the ground up as a dedicated surf foiling shape rather than an adaptation of a wing or SUP platform. The board features a surfboard-inspired outline with a full nose that supports the chest during paddling, rails that gradually taper into a squared-off tail for quick foot placement during takeoffs, and a generally flat rocker profile with a slight nose kick for efficient paddle-in entry. Bottom contours run a subtle double concave through the midsection, transitioning to a v-tail shape to reduce drag and promote clean water release.

Armstrong builds the Surf Foilboard using a double-skin PVC sandwich layup reinforced by dual i-beam carbon stringers running top to bottom. The foil mounting tracks are proprietary carbon fiber units keyed directly into the stringer fibers, creating an integrated load path between the foil and the board structure. This construction keeps each size thin relative to its volume while maintaining high torsional stiffness. The deck pad uses a micro-cutout pattern through the main standing area — textured enough for strapless riding yet flat enough for easy foot repositioning — topped off with a full-width kick pad at the tail that includes markings indicating foil track position beneath. Footstrap inserts are provided for riders who prefer a secured stance. Every board ships with a protective board bag.

Who It's For

The Armstrong Surf Foilboard targets prone foil surfers across a wide skill range, from riders still building paddle-in consistency to experienced foilers pushing strapless maneuvers in the wave zone. The full nose and flat rocker make paddling into waves more accessible for intermediate riders who may struggle with smaller, more performance-oriented shapes, while the thin profile and stiff construction give advanced surfers the direct foil feedback needed for tight turns and lip hits.

The seven-size spread — spanning 20 L up to 48 L — lets riders match volume to body weight and ability. Lighter or more skilled riders can size down for reduced swing weight and tighter response, while heavier riders or those still developing their pop-up can opt for added volume without moving to a different board line. The board is oriented toward ocean surf conditions rather than flat-water or downwind use.

In the Lineup

Within Armstrong's board range, the Surf Foilboard sits alongside the Forward Geometry (FG) Wing Surf and FG Wing SUP lines. Where the FG boards use a forward mast position tuned for wing-powered riding, the Surf Foilboard places its foil tracks further aft — a geometry suited to paddle-in wave catching where the rider's weight distribution differs from wing or tow setups. It is Armstrong's dedicated prone surf foiling option, distinct from their multi-discipline boards.

Competitors in the prone surf foil category include boards like the Takuma Surf Foilboard and the Axis Surf Series, which occupy a similar price tier and size spread. Riders deciding between the Armstrong Surf Foilboard and these alternatives will want to compare construction weight, tail shape preferences, and foil-track compatibility with their existing setup.
