Straps & Pads
10 products from major wing foiling retailers.
Straps and pads are the contact points between your feet and your wing foil board. Foot straps keep the board connected to you during jumps, aggressive pumping, and choppy conditions, while deck pads and kick pads provide traction and cushioning whether you ride strapped or strapless. Most wing foilers add these accessories as their riding progresses — beginners typically start without straps and add them as they begin jumping or riding in stronger wind.
Foot straps come in several configurations. A standard straight strap spans the deck and holds the foot securely, while a V-strap (sometimes called a surf strap) splits into a Y shape at the front, making tack and gybe foot-switches smoother because either side of the V guides the foot in. Padding material matters: memory foam straps conform to the foot and compress flat for prone paddling, while neoprene-lined straps prioritize quick entry and exit. Half straps cover only the toes, offering some pull leverage with easier kick-out on crashes. For the rear foot, a tail kick pad — a raised ramp at the pad's trailing edge — prevents your foot from sliding off during hard turns and gives a tactile reference point without looking down. Deck pads forward of the strap area add grip and knee comfort during water starts.
When choosing, check your board's insert pattern and screw sizing — not all straps and hardware are cross-compatible between brands. Straps and pads pair directly with your board; your foil and wing choices don't affect strap selection, but your riding style (freeride, wave, freestyle) will determine how many straps you mount and how aggressively your kick pad is angled.
