Overview

The 2025 Cabrinha AER Wing is a lightweight inflatable wing built around a stripped-back design philosophy. Cabrinha engineered the AER to minimize weight without relying on expensive Aluula or similar premium frame materials — instead using High Tenacity Dacron for the leading edge and strut, Featherlite bladders, and a Nano Ripstop canopy rated at 55 g/m² with a 3 mm double ripstop weave. The result is a wing that, at the 5 m size, weighs just 2.16 kg — lighter than many wings built with costlier fabrics. Rather than a boom or rigid handles, the AER uses ultra-lightweight semi-rigid handles, which contribute to the low overall mass and allow the wing to pack down compactly.

The AER's airframe features a convex strut for added rigidity and extended trailing-edge canopy support, paired with high dihedral for stability during upwind runs and when the wing is flying overhead. A draft-forward airfoil shape concentrates power in the front portion of the canopy, improving front-hand balance and low-end lift. Progressive wingtip twist keeps sheeting response forgiving across the size range. Dual Airlock inflation valves let riders inflate the strut and leading edge separately and tune internal pressure.

Who It's For

The AER targets riders who prioritize low swing weight and portability — particularly those drawn to downwind runs, wave sessions, and SUP-to-wing transitions where a compact, featherweight wing makes a practical difference. Its high dihedral and draft-forward power delivery suit intermediate to advanced riders who want a stable, efficient wing for upwind tracking and long-distance missions, while the forgiving tip twist keeps it accessible for progressing intermediates stepping into lighter gear.

The expanded small-size range (1.0 m through 2.0 m) also makes the AER a strong option for kids and lighter riders entering the sport. At these sizes the low weight and soft semi-rigid handles are manageable for younger athletes learning wing handling fundamentals.

In the Lineup

Within Cabrinha's 2025 wing range the AER sits alongside the Mantis and Vision. Where the Mantis is the brand's established freeride platform with a boom and slightly heavier build (the 5 m Mantis weighs roughly 2.5 kg), the AER trades the boom for semi-rigid handles and sheds significant weight — around 350 g at the 5 m size. The Vision occupies a more performance-oriented, high-aspect position. The AER carves out its own niche as the lightweight, value-oriented option that keeps the price accessible by using Dacron framing rather than premium composite materials.

For buyers cross-shopping across brands, the AER competes with other handle-style lightweight wings in a similar price bracket. Its chief selling point is achieving sub-premium-fabric weight numbers at a lower cost, making it particularly compelling for riders building a multi-wing quiver or outfitting younger family members without a steep per-wing investment.
