Overview

The 2026 Cabrinha Union Carbon Apex Mast is the top-tier mast option within Cabrinha's new Union foil platform. Built around a 14 mm ultra high-modulus monobloc carbon layup, the Apex sits above the standard Union Carbon-16 mast in Cabrinha's lineup and is engineered to deliver maximum stiffness with the thinnest possible hydrodynamic profile. The Union system itself debuted as a ground-up redesign of Cabrinha's foil connection interface, replacing the earlier Fusion platform with a split-fuselage architecture that reduces cross-sectional area by roughly 15 percent compared to the prior generation.

The monobloc construction means the mast is laid up as a single piece rather than bonded halves, which improves energy transfer from rider input to foil response. Cabrinha uses unidirectional pre-preg carbon throughout, orienting fibers for torsional rigidity while keeping wall thickness—and therefore drag—low. Each mast ships with a padded protective cover, board-mount hardware (four M8×30 mm screws with T-nuts), foil-assembly hardware (two M8×45 mm and one M8×25 mm bolts), and a T40 Torx T-handle tool.

Who It's For

The Apex mast targets experienced foilers who have moved past the fundamentals and want the most direct ride feel available in Cabrinha's current range. Its minimal flex and thin profile reward riders who can load the foil precisely—particularly at higher speeds and through hard carves where a stiffer mast translates into more predictable tracking. Disciplines suited to the Apex include wing foiling, prone foiling, and foil-drive setups.

Cabrinha positions the 78 cm length toward prone and downwind riding where a shorter mast keeps the board closer to the water for quicker surface starts, while the 84 cm length is aimed at all-around freeride, freestyle, and wave riding where additional ground clearance helps in chop and during aggressive banking. Riders stepping up from an alloy or standard-carbon mast will notice the reduction in mast-induced drag and the quicker energy return through pumping and transitions.

In the Lineup

Within the 2026 Union system, Cabrinha offers two carbon mast tiers. The Union Carbon-16 mast shares the same monobloc build philosophy and UNION connection but uses a 16 mm profile with a different carbon-modulus grade, retailing for roughly $1,289–$1,409 USD depending on length. The Apex Carbon-14 commands a premium of about $500–$570 more per size for its thinner section, higher-modulus carbon, and the resulting gains in stiffness-to-weight and drag reduction. Riders who prioritize value and still want strong carbon performance may find the Carbon-16 sufficient, while those chasing marginal gains in glide, top-end speed, and responsiveness will gravitate toward the Apex.

The Union platform replaces Cabrinha's previous Fusion foil system and pairs with the Union front wings (1150, 905, and 760 cm² options) and stabilizers (200, 180, 160 cm²), all sharing the same modular fuselage connection. For buyers cross-shopping other brands, comparable premium carbon masts in this price tier include high-modulus options from Armstrong and Axis, though direct compatibility across brands does not apply.
