Overview

The 2024 Duotone Slick Foil Wing is a freeride and freestyle inflatable wing built around Duotone's signature Mini Boom control system. The Slick sits within Duotone's wing foiling lineup as the brand's boom-equipped option, distinguishing it from handle-based designs like the Duotone Unit. For the 2024 model year, Duotone revised the canopy panel layout and adjusted the front strut and trailing-edge shape to increase low-end power compared to the 2023 version. The wing is offered in eight sizes from 3.0 m² to 6.5 m² and ships in two colorways — Lime/Dark Grey and Turquoise/Coral. Note that the Mini Boom itself is sold separately.

The Slick uses Duotone's MOD3 canopy material, a wing-specific fabric engineered for durability and consistent power delivery. A rounded outline helps the wing recover quickly from tip strikes during transitions or crashes. The refined 2024 panel geometry is intended to hold a stable draft position, reducing the need to shuffle hand placement when gusts hit.

Who It's For

The Duotone Slick suits a wide skill range but finds its strongest footing with riders who value direct, rigid control — particularly those with a windsurfing background. The boom interface provides infinite hand placement along the strut, giving beginners a secure grip during early progression and offering advanced riders precise leverage for freestyle rotations and upwind tricks. Compared to soft-handle wings, the boom delivers a stiffer, more connected feel that translates rider input with minimal lag.

Condition-wise, the Slick is well matched to flat water and gusty inland spots. The stable draft profile keeps power delivery predictable when wind is inconsistent, and the on/off power characteristic helps riders depower cleanly at the top end. Riders who frequently use a harness line setup will also benefit from the boom's fixed attachment points. For dedicated wave riding in side-shore surf, Duotone's Unit wing — with its handle-based layout and easier flagging — may be a better match.

In the Lineup

Within Duotone's 2024 wing range, the Slick is the brand's boom-centric all-rounder, sitting alongside the handle-driven Unit and the more wave-oriented Echo. A higher-spec version, the Slick D/LAB, uses Aluula composite on the leading edge and strut for reduced weight and increased rigidity at a higher price point. There is also a Concept Blue edition built with an undyed canopy for riders prioritizing lower environmental impact. The standard Slick reviewed here uses the MOD3 canopy and represents the mid-tier option in terms of both price and material technology.

Buyers cross-shopping outside the Duotone ecosystem will find the Slick competing with other boom-compatible wings such as the Ensis Score and the F-One Strike V4. The Slick's eight-size spread — from 3.0 to 6.5 m² — is broader than many competitors offer, making it easier to build a tightly spaced quiver without mixing brands.
