Overview
The 2024 Duotone Unit Foil Wing is a strut-based inflatable wing designed for wave riding, freeride sessions, and aerial maneuvers. Developed by Duotone under the guidance of designer Ken Winner, the Unit has gone through several iterations since its debut and remains one of the brand's core wing models. The 2024 version refines the outline, twist, and canopy tension of the MOD3 canopy material — a lightweight, stiff, and water-resistant fabric Duotone introduced in a prior generation. Notable updates for 2024 include an extended carbon-core front handle that supports one-handed flying, and a redesigned angled strut that promotes a more natural hand position and reduces arm fatigue during longer sessions.
Additional details worth noting: the wing uses removable trailing-edge battens for canopy stability and includes slit windows for on-water visibility without compromising the canopy's structural integrity. Duotone's proprietary Airport Valve is used for inflation, so riders with pumps from other brands will need a compatible adapter. A leash is not included and must be purchased separately.

Who It's For
The 2024 Unit suits intermediate to advanced wing foilers who want a single wing that handles surf, jumps, and general freeride without compromise. Its generous lift and power delivery make it forgiving enough for riders still building consistency on foil, while the refined drift behavior and canopy tension give experienced pilots confident control when flagging the wing out on a wave face. The smaller sizes stocked here — 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0 — are high-wind options suited to riders in consistent 19-knot-plus conditions or lighter riders looking for a compact, maneuverable wing for gusty days.
Duotone recommends spacing wing sizes by 1.0 to 1.5 m² when building a quiver, so these small sizes pair naturally with a 4.0 or 4.5 from the same line for broader wind coverage.
In the Lineup
Within Duotone's 2024 wing range, the Unit sits alongside the Slick and occupies the strut-only, no-boom side of the lineup. Where the Slick pairs an inflated center strut with a rigid half-length boom and emphasizes forward drive and apparent-wind speed, the Unit prioritizes lift, vertical power, and drift — characteristics that favor wave riding and big-air jumps. A premium D/LAB version of the Unit is also available, offering lighter materials and stiffer construction at a higher price point for performance-focused riders.
Outside the Duotone range, the Unit competes most directly with wings like the F-One Strike and the Naish MK4, both of which target a similar freeride-to-wave crossover niche. Riders choosing between the Unit and the Slick typically weigh whether they prioritize surf-oriented drift and jumping power (Unit) or flat-water speed and forward pull (Slick).
