Overview

The 2024 Duotone Ventis D/LAB Wing is a premium light-wind inflatable wing built around Duotone's Aluula composite frame and a three-strut architecture. Where the standard Ventis uses conventional bladder materials, the D/LAB edition swaps in Aluula for the leading edge and all three struts, cutting roughly 13 percent of the weight while adding stiffness. The canopy is a 50 g ripstop with optimized thread orientation to keep swing weight low and response quick. Two sizes — 7.0 m and 8.0 m — cover the dedicated light-wind end of Duotone's wing range.

The three-strut layout is central to how the Ventis D/LAB generates and holds power. Two side struts lock the canopy profile from center to tip, allowing Duotone to reduce the wingtip area without sacrificing projected span or usable lift. A shorter tip means less drag at the extremities and a more stable draft position across the wind window. The center strut is angled to encourage a relaxed arm position, and an extended carbon front handle supports one-handed riding during long, light-wind sessions.

Who It's For

The Ventis D/LAB is aimed at riders who regularly chase marginal wind days and want to get on foil with minimal pumping effort. Its design intent focuses on generating lift in conditions where conventional two-strut wings struggle to maintain a useful profile. The low all-up weight — under 3 kg in the 7.0 m — means the wing stays responsive and maneuverable even at sizes that would normally feel sluggish.

Skill level skews intermediate to advanced, largely because of the price point and the assumption that riders shopping at the D/LAB tier already own a general-purpose wing and are adding a specialist light-wind tool. That said, Duotone positions the Ventis line as accessible enough for developing foilers; the three-strut frame holds the canopy shape so consistently that riders don't need advanced pumping technique to initiate lift. Smaller or lighter riders who find oversized wings unwieldy may benefit from the reduced tip area, which shrinks the effective handling envelope closer to that of a smaller wing.

In the Lineup

Within Duotone's 2024 wing range, the Ventis D/LAB sits at the top of the light-wind category. Below it is the standard Ventis, which shares the same three-strut platform and profile shape but uses a conventional bladder frame at a lower price and slightly higher weight. For riders who want an all-conditions wing rather than a light-wind specialist, Duotone offers the Slick and Unit lines, both available in standard and D/LAB tiers.

The closest external comparison is to other Aluula-framed light-wind wings such as the Ocean Rodeo Glide A-Series. Both prioritize weight reduction and canopy rigidity for sub-12-knot performance, though the Ventis D/LAB's three-strut design distinguishes it structurally from most competitors' two-strut layouts. For 2025, Duotone has continued the Ventis D/LAB alongside a new Ventis FS D/LAB variant that adds Fusion Technology to the platform.
