Overview

The 2025 Duotone Unit D/LAB Foil Wing is the top-tier construction variant of Duotone's flagship all-round wing, the Unit. Designed by head wing designer Ken Winner, the Unit D/LAB sits at the apex of the brand's wing lineup, using a full Aluula Gold frame for both the leading edge and center strut. This material choice delivers a notably stiff and lightweight structure — the 5.0m size weighs just 2.18 kg without handles or boom attached. Duotone positions the Unit D/LAB across freeride, freestyle, and wave disciplines, making it a versatile performance wing rather than a single-purpose tool.

New for the 2025 generation is the Fusion handle and boom system, which lets riders swap between dedicated Fusion handles or a Fusion boom depending on preference and riding style. Both options use an oval carbon construction with a pistol-grip shape. The canopy uses Duotone's MOD3 S material, paired with a smaller-diameter Aluula Gold leading edge and strut that reduce aerodynamic drag compared to previous generations. Updated window placements improve downward visibility while on foil.

Who It's For

The Unit D/LAB targets intermediate to advanced wing foilers who want a single wing that transitions between freeride cruising, wave riding, and freestyle sessions. The full Aluula Gold frame delivers the stiffness and direct feedback that experienced riders rely on for precise power management and quick transitions. Lighter weight also helps in marginal wind conditions, extending the usable range of each size compared to heavier constructions.

Wave-oriented riders benefit from the refined leading-edge handle, which Duotone stiffened to improve steering accuracy when the wing is flagged during turns. The light canopy follows rider movements without excessive drag or lag, which matters during down-the-line riding where the wing needs to stay out of the way. Freestylers and freeride-focused pilots can take advantage of the Fusion boom option for continuous hand repositioning.

In the Lineup

Duotone offers the Unit platform in three construction tiers for 2025. The standard Unit uses conventional materials at the most accessible price point. The Unit SLS steps up with a PentaTX frame that incorporates an Aluula Gold center segment, splitting the difference between cost and weight savings. The Unit D/LAB completes the range with a full Aluula Gold frame throughout, making it the lightest and stiffest — and most expensive — option. All three share the same wing shape and Fusion handle/boom compatibility, so the choice comes down to construction and budget.

Riders cross-shopping from other brands may compare the Unit D/LAB to premium-construction wings like the Ensis Score Pro or the F-One Strike CWC, which also use advanced frame materials to cut weight. Within Duotone's own catalog, the Unit D/LAB replaces the previous-generation D/LAB Unit and adds the new Fusion system as a meaningful ergonomic upgrade over the prior fixed-handle layout.
