Overview

The Flysurfer STING SUP Fin Set is a center fin upgrade designed to add directional stability to stand-up paddleboards. Produced by Flysurfer, a German brand established in the kite and wing foiling space, the STING addresses a common challenge for SUP riders and wing surfers alike: lateral drift. The kit uses Flysurfer's Kumano System, a base plate with integrated fin box and tensioning straps that attaches to the underside of a paddleboard without requiring a built-in fin box. This makes the STING compatible with a broad range of SUP models rather than being limited to boards with a specific fin-box standard.

The set ships as a complete package: one 9-inch fin blade, a base plate with tensioning straps, three Kumano plugs, a threaded fin blade, and an M4 stainless-steel thumb screw. Installation is tool-free beyond the included hardware, with the Kumano plugs anchoring the base plate to the board's deck pad or hull and the thumb screw locking the fin in place.

Who It's For

The STING is aimed at two overlapping audiences. First, flat-water and recreational SUP paddlers who want better tracking from a board that shipped without a center fin or with a shallow stock fin. A 9-inch fin provides meaningful lateral resistance, helping the board hold a straighter line with each paddle stroke.

Second, and perhaps the primary audience, the STING targets riders entering wing surfing on an existing SUP. Flysurfer positions the fin as a companion accessory to its TAO and MOJO surf wings. When winging on a paddleboard before transitioning to a dedicated wing board or foil setup, a center fin reduces downwind slip and makes the board more predictable during powered runs. Intermediate riders using a SUP as a learning platform for wing surfing will find the added stability particularly useful in light-to-moderate wind conditions where foiling speed hasn't been reached.

In the Lineup

Within Flysurfer's accessory catalog, the STING is the brand's sole aftermarket SUP fin offering. It sits alongside the TAO and MOJO wing lines as part of an ecosystem designed to lower the entry barrier into wing surfing — riders can pair an existing paddleboard with a Flysurfer wing and the STING fin rather than investing in a dedicated wing board immediately. Aftermarket SUP center fins from other brands typically use US-box or slot-box standards and assume the board already has a compatible fin box. The STING's Kumano plug mounting system differentiates it by working on boards that lack a built-in center-fin slot, broadening the pool of compatible SUPs. For riders whose boards already have a standard fin box, options from brands like FCS or standard US-box fins remain available at lower price points, though without the universal mounting approach the Kumano system provides.
