Overview

The Foil Drive 40v Fast Charger 8 Amp is a high-output battery charger built by Australian foil-assist manufacturer Foil Drive. Designed exclusively for the brand's 40V Gen2 battery platform, this charger doubles the amperage of the standard 40V 4A charger, cutting recharge times roughly in half. It ships with three interchangeable AC power leads (AU, US, and EU) and accepts 100–240V input, making it functional across most global power grids without an adapter.

Foil Drive's assist systems rely on rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs that mount to the board and power a motor on the mast. Between sessions, faster turnaround at the charger means more time on the water — especially relevant during multi-session days or travel. The 8A charger includes built-in protection circuitry covering overheat, overcharge, and short-circuit scenarios.

Key Specs

  • Output current: 8 A
  • Output voltage: 40 V
  • Input voltage: 100–240 V AC
  • Compatibility: All Foil Drive 40V Gen2 batteries
  • Not compatible with: MAX Travel Battery, Slim Performance Battery
  • Included power leads: AU, US, EU

Who It's For

This charger suits any Foil Drive owner running a 40V Gen2 battery who wants shorter downtime between sessions. Riders who regularly squeeze in two or more water sessions per day — or those charging at remote locations where time at the outlet is limited — benefit most from the higher amperage. It is also a practical upgrade for anyone traveling with their Foil Drive setup, since the universal input voltage and bundled regional power leads eliminate the need for bulky converters.

Because it is limited to 40V Gen2 cells, buyers should confirm which battery they own before purchasing. It will not charge the Foil Drive MAX Travel Battery (which splits into airline-approved segments) or the Slim Performance Battery, both of which operate on different voltage platforms.

In the Lineup

Foil Drive currently offers five chargers spanning the voltage tiers of its battery ecosystem. At the 40V level, the 8A Fast Charger sits above the 40V Standard Charger 4A, which costs roughly 40 percent less but charges at half the rate. Below the 40V tier, Foil Drive sells a 28V Standard Charger 4A for Slim-series batteries and a 22V charger for the original Assist battery. Above it, a 43V Standard Charger 12A serves the newest Fusion-series cells.

For riders already invested in the 40V Gen2 battery ecosystem — particularly the Assist MAX Sport or Assist MAX High Power batteries — the 8A charger is the fastest dedicated charging option Foil Drive offers at this voltage. The only alternative for quicker turnaround would be carrying a second battery to swap in while the first charges on the standard 4A unit.
