Overview

Foil Drive MAX Batteries are the dedicated power source for the Foil Drive Assist MAX electric foil-assist system. Manufactured by Australian brand Foil Drive, the MAX battery lineup includes four variants — Sport, Travel, Power, and High Power — each targeting a different balance of weight, capacity, and portability. All four share the same 39.6 V nominal voltage platform and IP68 water-and-dust-ingress rating, and each ships with a lipo bag and power-plug dust cap. The batteries are exclusively compatible with the Assist MAX system and charge via Foil Drive's 40 V or 40 V Fast Charger.

Who It's For

The four-battery lineup lets riders match energy storage to their priorities. The MAX Sport, at just 1.85 kg, suits performance-oriented foilers who want the lightest possible on-board weight and are willing to accept shorter sessions in exchange. The MAX Travel is aimed at traveling riders who need airline-approved modularity; its three sub-160 Wh sections keep each piece within the lithium-battery limits enforced by most carriers, while reassembling into a 350 Wh pack on location. The MAX Power offers the highest capacity in the standard range at 499 Wh, making it a practical choice for riders who prioritize long sessions over minimum weight.

The MAX High Power sits at the top of the lineup at 594 Wh — roughly 19 percent more capacity than the MAX Power — and is built to pair with Foil Drive's High Power Motor. That combination unlocks a 28-percent boost mode and can deliver up to 40–45 percent more runtime than a standard MAX Power setup, according to Foil Drive. Riders logging longer downwind runs or paddling in lighter wind will benefit most from the added energy reserve.

In the Lineup

Within the Foil Drive ecosystem, these batteries sit alongside the Assist MAX motor unit, controller, and charger accessories. The MAX battery platform replaced the earlier Assist Plus and Gen 1 packs, moving to a higher 39.6 V nominal architecture and IP68 sealing across the board. The High Power variant is the newest addition, extending capacity and enabling the High Power Motor's enhanced throttle range.

For riders comparing electric foil-assist options outside the Foil Drive ecosystem, the closest alternative is the Takuma Efoil battery system, though Foil Drive's modular approach — particularly the airline-friendly Travel variant — remains distinctive in the segment. Within Foil Drive's own catalog, the choice between Sport, Travel, Power, and High Power comes down to a clear trade-off: weight and portability on one end, capacity and peak performance on the other.
