Foil Drive MAX Travel Battery
Variants
- Default Title$949
Overview
The Foil Drive MAX Travel Battery is a modular lithium battery designed exclusively for the Foil Drive Assist MAX system. Manufactured by Australian company Foil Drive, it solves a specific logistical challenge: getting your electric foil-assist unit onto an airplane. The battery splits into three separate modules, each falling within international airline carry-on limits for lithium batteries, making it the only battery in the Foil Drive MAX lineup approved for air travel. Once reassembled, it functions as a single unit comparable in form factor to the standard MAX Power Battery and uses the same larger "A" nose cone.

Who It's For
The MAX Travel Battery is built for one primary audience: riders who need to fly with their Foil Drive Assist MAX setup. Whether you're chasing swells on a destination trip or splitting time between home waters and a second location, this is the only Foil Drive MAX battery that can legally travel in carry-on luggage. Each of its three modules stays within the sub-160 Wh airline threshold, with two modules at 129.6 Wh (which may require carrier pre-approval) and one at 97.2 Wh. Foil Drive notes that airlines limit passengers to one MAX Travel Battery set, though multiple Slim Travel sets can be carried alongside it.
Because the three-piece design sacrifices some internal space for connectors between modules, session duration is slightly shorter than the MAX Power Battery but comparable to the MAX Sport Battery. Riders who never plan to fly are better served by the Power or Sport batteries, which offer either longer runtime or lighter weight without the modular construction. However, many traveling riders find the Travel Battery doubles as a practical backup unit for local sessions when it's not packed in a suitcase.
In the Lineup
Foil Drive's MAX battery range currently includes four options arranged by capacity: the MAX Sport (332 Wh), the MAX Travel (356.6 Wh), the MAX Power (499 Wh), and the MAX High Power (594 Wh). The Travel Battery sits just above the Sport in total energy but occupies the same physical footprint as the Power Battery. It is not a replacement for any other battery in the range — it exists as a purpose-built travel solution. Riders who want maximum session time at home typically pair it with a Power or High Power Battery and reserve the Travel unit for trips. The Foil Drive Slim Travel Battery offers an even smaller two-piece alternative at 178 Wh for riders willing to trade runtime for lighter packing, but its lower capacity limits it to shorter sessions.
