Overview
The Foil Drive V2 Motor Cable is a removable, interchangeable cable that connects the V2 motor unit to the controller on your hydrofoil mast. Manufactured by Foil Drive, it is one of the defining upgrades introduced with the V2 Motor System — a recessed plug on the front of the V2 motor allows riders to swap cables of different lengths without tools or permanent modifications. Each cable ships with a V2 Motor Cable O-Ring to maintain a watertight seal at the connection point. Every new Foil Drive kit ships with a 20 cm cable as the factory-standard length.

Who It's For
The V2 Motor Cable is relevant to any rider running a Foil Drive electric-assist setup who wants to adjust motor height on the mast. Cable length determines where the motor sits relative to the board and the fuselage, which affects balance, drag, and how the propulsion interacts with the foil. Shorter cables position the motor higher on the mast and closer to the board; longer cables move it lower toward the fuselage.
Because motor position preferences change as a rider progresses, carrying more than one cable length is common. Beginners often start with a longer cable to keep the motor lower and out of the way during early attempts, then move to shorter lengths as they refine technique and want the motor closer to the waterline. Riders who switch between disciplines — wing foiling, prone foiling, SUP foiling, or downwind runs — may also swap cables to suit different board-and-foil combinations or water conditions.
In the Lineup
The Removable V2 Motor Cable sits in Foil Drive's spare-parts catalog alongside other V2-system accessories like the V2 Motor itself and the associated controller hardware. It replaced the fixed-cable design of the original Foil Drive motor, where changing motor position required a more involved process. The removable plug-in approach is exclusive to V2-generation hardware and is not backward-compatible with first-generation Foil Drive motors.
Within the current Foil Drive ecosystem, the cable is a low-cost way to experiment with setup tuning before committing to other hardware changes. Riders who already own one length and want to test a different motor position can add a second cable rather than purchasing an entirely new motor assembly.
