2022 Ion Harness Waist Wing Rogue

Overview
The 2022 ION Wing Rogue is a waist harness built from the ground up for wing foiling. Introduced as ION's first harness dedicated solely to the discipline, the Rogue draws on the German brand's decades of kite and windsurf harness engineering but strips the design down to the essentials wing foilers actually need. The goal is straightforward: improve force distribution from the wing to the rider's core, reduce arm fatigue on longer sessions, and stay out of the way during transitions and paddle-outs.
The harness uses ION's CURV hard-shell construction, a thermoplastic composite that resists water absorption and keeps weight low. ION pairs this shell with a 3D-molded PLUS_Spine feature running along the back panel, adding structured lumbar support without bulking up the profile. Inside, textured EVA foam grips against a wetsuit to prevent the harness from riding up or rotating under load. A horizontal zip across the front simplifies entry and exit, and spring-loaded buckles on the 25mm webbing allow on-the-fly adjustments.

Who It's For
The Rogue targets intermediate to advanced wing foilers who spend enough time hooked in to benefit from load redistribution but still want full freedom of movement for transitions, tacks, and jibes. Riders coming from kitesurfing or windsurfing will find the form factor familiar, though noticeably lighter than a typical kite waist harness. The movable hook slides along a shock-cord rail, giving roughly 15 cm of lateral travel so it can be shifted clear of the body when paddling out or prone on the board, then repositioned for hooked-in riding.
Because the CURV shell sits on the stiffer end of ION's flex-index scale, the Rogue provides more direct back support than softer neoprene-style harnesses. That makes it a practical choice for riders using larger, higher-aspect wings that generate sustained pull, or for those progressing into powered freestyle where loads spike during rotations.
In the Lineup
Within ION's own range, the Rogue was the brand's flagship wing-specific harness at launch in 2022. ION also offers the Apex waist harness, which shares the EVA-lined interior and PLUS_Spine back panel but carries a lower flex index, making it a softer, more flexible option suited to riders who prioritize comfort and mobility over rigid support. The Rogue's stiffer shell appeals to those who want maximum load transfer and minimal flex under power.
Outside ION's catalog, the Rogue competes with dedicated wing harnesses from Mystic and Ride Engine. Mystic's Stealth wing harness occupies a similar hard-shell, low-weight niche, while Ride Engine's offerings lean toward a broader watersports crossover. At a discounted retail price, the 2022 Rogue represents a previous-generation opportunity for riders who want a purpose-built wing harness without paying current-year pricing.
