Overview

The KT Ginxu Dragonfly 3 Carbon is a third-generation downwind SUP foilboard designed by Keith Teboul's Maui-based KT Surfing team. Released as a 2025 model, it succeeds the Dragonfly 2 with a redesigned hull and updated volume distribution aimed at broader versatility. While the Dragonfly line originated as a dedicated downwind board, the V3 iteration expands its scope to cover light-wind winging, surf foiling, and flatwater inland sessions alongside its core open-ocean downwind role.

KT's patented Ginxu Step Bottom (US Patent No. 11,027,795) carries over from earlier generations. The recessed step beneath the foil baseplate is engineered to reduce drag during takeoff and touchdown, and to create a more parallel angle between deck and foil for an even-footed stance. The Dragonfly 3 refines the concept with a flatter displacement hull, repositioned volume from nose to tail, and a uniform 18.75-inch width across all sizes — a departure from earlier versions that varied width by size.

Who It's For

The Dragonfly 3 Carbon targets intermediate to advanced foilers who want a single board for multiple disciplines rather than a quiver of specialized shapes. Its primary use case is downwind SUP foiling — paddling into open-ocean or river bumps and linking glides on foil — but the hull also handles light-wind wing sessions and small-wave surf foiling without requiring a board swap.

The 105 L and 110 L sizes suit lighter or more experienced riders comfortable with less flotation during paddle-up, while the 116 L through 135 L options give heavier riders or those newer to downwind foiling additional stability and earlier planing. The consistent 18.75-inch width across the range means the ride character stays similar regardless of size — riders moving between volumes encounter the same lateral stability profile.

In the Lineup

Within KT's current downwind catalog, the Dragonfly 3 Carbon sits as the all-around option. The Dragonfly Crossing 2 Pro Carbon is the brand's pure-race downwind board, narrower and tuned for long-distance open-ocean runs and flatwater speed. The Dragonfly Surf 2 Carbon leans toward shorter-period swell and surf-oriented foiling. The Dragonfly 3 occupies the middle ground — capable across conditions without the specialization of either sibling.

Compared to the outgoing Dragonfly 2, KT describes the V3 as more stable and less prone to the lateral tippiness that characterized earlier versions, while retaining quick acceleration and clean release. Riders cross-shopping in this category may also consider boards like the Starboard Downwinder or the Armstrong Downwind board, both of which compete in the versatile downwind SUP foil segment at similar price points.
