Overview

The KT Nomad Back Wing is a rear stabilizer designed by KT Foiling in collaboration with Kane de Wilde of KD Foils. It serves as the tail wing for the Nomad foil system, a mid-aspect platform built for versatility across wing foiling, prone, kite, downwind, SUP, wake, and surf disciplines. The Nomad Back Wing is available in three sizes — 155, 190, and 250 cm² — each sharing the same swept planform and high-camber airfoil profile that defines the Nomad line.

KT's stabilizer uses a rear-loaded airfoil shape paired with inflected wingtips. The rear-loaded profile is intended to maintain efficiency across a broad speed envelope while supporting low-speed lift and pump-ability. The inflected tips help resist ventilation when the stabilizer breaches the surface during aggressive carves and turns, keeping pitch control predictable through transitions.

Who It's For

The Nomad Back Wing pairs with the Nomad front wings (700, 830, 980, and 1160 cm²) and suits riders from progressing intermediate through advanced levels. Because the Nomad system's high-camber foil section generates lift earlier and resists stalling more readily than conventional profiles, KT recommends sizing down the stabilizer 10–20 percent compared to what a rider might choose on other brands. A rider coming from a 200 cm² tail on a competing foil, for example, could start with the 155 or 190.

The compact span across all three sizes keeps wingspan flex minimal and supports tight, leaned-over carves — a priority for surf-style and wave-oriented riding. The 250 cm² option adds pitch stability for heavier riders or lower-wind sessions where the front wing is doing more work, while the 155 cm² suits lighter pilots or higher-speed setups where less rear-wing drag is preferred.

In the Lineup

KT Foiling's current hydrofoil range is anchored by two wing families: the Nomad (mid-aspect, carve-oriented) and the Atlas (high-aspect, speed and glide-oriented). Each family has its own matched stabilizer. The Nomad Back Wing is purpose-tuned for the Nomad front wings, though all KT components share the same mounting interface and can be mixed across the range.

Within the Nomad stabilizer line, the three sizes let riders fine-tune rear-wing behavior without changing front wings or fuselage. Compared to the Atlas stabilizer, the Nomad Back Wing emphasizes maneuverability and turn response over top-end glide. Riders building a quiver within KT's ecosystem can pair a single fuselage and mast with both Nomad and Atlas wing sets, swapping front and rear wings to shift between surf-style carving and efficient cruising.
