Overview

The Lift Foils M2 Mast is a high-modulus carbon fiber foil mast designed for surf foiling, prone foiling, and downwind applications within the Lift Foils ecosystem. Introduced in late 2023 as an upgrade to the Classic Series mast, the M2 retains the same hydrodynamic mast profile but uses a stiffer grade of carbon fiber to deliver measurably greater rigidity. Lift offers the M2 in three lengths — 28", 32", and 36" — each targeting different wave sizes and riding styles. It is a mast-only component intended for Lift's classic (non-eFoil) foil system.

The central design goal of the M2 is increased stiffness without changing the proven cross-sectional shape of the Classic mast. Lift states the M2 achieves 30% greater flex stiffness and 45% greater torsional stiffness compared to the Classic Series, which translates to less mast deflection under load and more direct energy transfer between rider input and foil response.

Who It's For

Lift positions the M2 as a mast for heavier or more powerful riders — specifically those over 180 lbs — and notes it is tuned for use with their large HA-X front wings. That combination points toward experienced foilers who ride high-aspect setups for surf, pump, and glide efficiency rather than beginners still learning to get on foil. The added torsional stiffness is most noticeable at speed and under hard carving loads, so riders who stay in mellow, low-speed conditions may not feel a significant difference over the Classic mast.

Each length targets a different use case. The 28" is the most maneuverable option, suited to smaller surf and tight pumping tracks where a shorter mast keeps the foil responsive and close to the surface. The 32" adds clearance for steeper or faster waves, giving more margin before the wing breaches during aggressive turns. The 36" is aimed at riders towing into larger surf or foiling behind a kite, where ride height and ground clearance become critical.

In the Lineup

Within Lift's own catalog, the M2 sits above the Classic Series mast as the higher-performance option. Both share the same profile and mounting interface, so riders already on the Lift system can upgrade without changing boards or fuselages. The Classic remains available as a more affordable entry point into the Lift foil platform, while the M2 targets riders who have outgrown it and want stiffer response at speed.

In the broader market, the M2 competes with other premium carbon foil masts from brands like Axis and Armstrong. Axis offers high-modulus mast options in similar length increments, and Armstrong's masts are also positioned for advanced riders seeking maximum stiffness-to-weight. The M2's distinguishing factor is its integration with Lift's proprietary mounting system, so cross-brand compatibility is not a consideration — this is a mast for riders already committed to the Lift platform or building a new Lift setup from scratch.
