Overview

The 2024 North Sonar MA V2 Front Wings are mid-aspect foil wings designed for use across wing foiling, kite foiling, wake foiling, and prone surf foiling. Manufactured by North, part of the North Action Sports Group, the MA V2 series is the second generation of the Sonar Mid Aspect line and spans eight carbon sizes from 700 cm² to 2100 cm², plus a 2400 cm² model offered in North's more affordable Prime (E-glass) construction. Each size in the range shares core design traits — a flat center section with anhedral toward the tips and flattened wingtips — while the aspect ratio progressively increases as the wing area decreases, shifting the balance from early lift and stability toward top-end speed and efficiency.

Rather than scaling a single outline up and down, North shaped each size individually so that the handling feel remains consistent across the lineup while performance characteristics evolve with area. The carbon models (MA700–MA2100) use Sonar Pre-Preg Carbon layup with titanium mounting screws, while the MA2400 Prime uses a Pre-Preg E-glass construction at a lower price point.

Who It's For

The larger sizes in the range — the MA2400, MA2100, MA1850, and MA1500 — target riders who are learning to foil or want maximum low-speed lift without aggressive pumping. These wings generate substantial lift at low speeds and offer high pitch stability, making them well-suited to beginning and intermediate wing foilers or heavier riders who need extra area to get on foil comfortably. The MA1500 also serves as a capable option for experienced riders around 85 kg or above who want easy lift in lighter wind.

The smaller sizes — MA1200, MA1050, MA850, and MA700 — are built for intermediate to advanced riders who prioritize speed, agility, and glide. They deliver higher top-end speed and tighter turning, making them strong choices for freeride wing foiling at pace, freestyle, wave riding, and crossover into kite or wake foiling. The MA1200 in particular occupies a versatile middle ground, performing well across kite foiling, wing foiling, and prone surfing while still providing enough low-speed lift to work on sinker boards in moderate wind.

In the Lineup

The MA V2 series sits alongside North's high-aspect Sonar HA and surf-oriented Sonar SF front wings within the broader Sonar modular foil platform. Where the HA wings prioritize pure glide and upwind efficiency, the MA V2 line trades some aspect ratio for a wider usable speed range and more forgiving stall behavior, making it the most versatile series in North's foil wing catalog.

The V2 generation refines the original MA outline with updated anhedral shaping and improved tip geometry for better ventilation resistance during tip breaches. Within the competitive mid-aspect category, the MA V2 line competes with offerings like the Armstrong MA series and the Axis BSC wings, though North's emphasis on consistent cross-size handling and its modular Sonar mast-and-fuselage ecosystem give it a distinct identity for riders already invested in the Sonar platform.
