Overview

The 2025 North Nova Pro Wing is a performance freeride inflatable wing from North Action Sports, built for riders who want a lighter, more responsive tool for carving swells, boosting airs, and freestyle maneuvers. For 2025, North refined the Nova Pro's profile to deliver more positive lift, smoother power transitions, and reduced sensitivity to angle-of-attack changes. The airframe uses North's high-tensile N-Weave45 material in the strut and leading-edge center segment, paired with anti-deflection uni-directional carbon tapes running the full length of the leading edge. This combination creates an airframe that holds its shape under load and snaps back quickly after gusts. The canopy is 80 percent Matrix Canopy construction for increased torsional strength, while radial panel cuts reduce canopy distortion and drag. Radial load diffusers at the strut ends and wingtips distribute tension evenly across the frame.

Who It's For

The Nova Pro is aimed at intermediate-to-advanced wing foilers who have moved past the learning phase and want direct, agile power delivery. Its responsive sheeting characteristics reward riders who actively work the wing through turns and transitions rather than relying on static pull. North positions this wing for carving ocean swells, boosting, and freestyle — disciplines where quick power modulation and a stiff, reactive airframe matter more than raw low-end grunt.

The contoured strut and Active Twist wingtips help manage comfort during longer sessions and overpowered conditions, with the wingtip flex shedding excess load rather than transmitting it to the rider's arms. The ShiftLock track system allows riders to configure handles, a carbon boom, GoPro mounts, or paddle holders depending on their discipline, making the Nova Pro adaptable across freeride, downwind, and freestyle setups. Boom compatibility varies by size: the 2.9m fits only the 950mm boom, while sizes 4.0m and up accept the 1100mm boom.

In the Lineup

The Nova Pro sits above the standard North Nova in the brand's wing range. The Nova uses an N-HTRS canopy with Dacron construction and fixed rigid handles, making it more forgiving and accessible for newer riders. The Pro steps up with the N-Weave45 airframe, Matrix Canopy, carbon LE tapes, and the modular ShiftLock handle system — upgrades that reduce weight, increase stiffness, and sharpen handling. Where the Nova prioritizes easy pumping and strong low-end pull for light-wind sessions, the Nova Pro trades some of that forgiveness for quicker response and better high-end composure.

Within the broader North wing lineup, the Mode Pro occupies the dedicated race and speed end of the spectrum, while the Nova Pro covers the performance freeride and surf-oriented space. Riders choosing between the two models should consider whether their priority is upwind efficiency and top-end speed (Mode Pro) or versatile wave-riding agility with freestyle capability (Nova Pro). The six-size range from 2.9m to 6.2m covers a broad wind spectrum, making it straightforward to build a two- or three-wing quiver within a single model line.
