Overview

The 2025 North Swell Foilboard is a surf-inspired crossover foilboard built for wing foiling, prone foiling, and wave riding. Produced by North, one of the established names in kite and wing foil hardware, the Swell returns for 2025 with a six-size lineup spanning 35 to 85 liters. Its core design intent centers on a teardrop outline that concentrates volume in the forward three-quarters of the board, paired with a narrow tail featuring a sharp square cutoff. This shape is purpose-built to deliver quick lift onto foil while maintaining a surf-style feel through turns and carves. North uses their Hybrid Carbon Technology construction across the range, keeping weight down while maintaining structural rigidity.

The hull uses a tri-plane design intended to give clean water release during takeoff and reduce impact during touchdowns. A single-tunnel concave runs through the nose for directional tracking, while chine detailing along the wider forward section helps prevent rail catching during aggressive maneuvers. The board ships with a full-coverage EVA deckpad, a leash attachment loop, and North's Ti-DropBox titanium mounting hardware.

Who It's For

The Swell spans a wide skill range depending on size selection. In the larger volumes (75L and 85L), it provides enough float for intermediate riders stepping down from high-volume displacement boards, offering stable knee starts and adequate surface area for learning foil transitions. The wider nose in these sizes makes strapless starts more approachable, while the board still rewards progression with responsive turning characteristics.

In the smaller sizes (35L to 55L), the Swell operates as a sinker board aimed at advanced riders. These volumes suit prone foiling, tow foiling, and kite foiling in addition to wing foiling, making the compact end of the range a genuine crossover platform. Lighter riders around 60–65 kg can use the mid-range 65L as a daily driver that balances early lift with agility. North provides floater and sinker rider-weight recommendations for each size, so matching volume to body weight and skill level is straightforward.

In the Lineup

Within North's 2025 foilboard range, the Swell sits alongside the Seek. Where the Seek is oriented toward freeride wing foiling with a flatter rocker and more forgiving platform, the Swell leans into performance wave riding and surf-style foiling. The Swell's curved outline and narrow tail reflect that wave-focused DNA, and the smaller sizes double as prone and tow boards — territory the Seek doesn't cover as directly.

At its current retail pricing, the Swell competes with boards like the Fanatic Sky Surf and the F-One Rocket S in the surf-oriented foilboard category. Its hybrid carbon build at this price point positions it as a mid-range option that doesn't cut corners on hardware — the titanium DropBox mounting system and full deckpad come standard across all six sizes.
