Overview

The 2026 North Boost Foilboard is a purpose-built board designed from the ground up for electric-assisted foiling with Foil Drive systems. Produced by North, a long-established kiteboarding and foiling brand, the Boost occupies a unique slot in their lineup as a dedicated Foil Drive board rather than a traditional wing or kite foilboard. Its defining feature is a recessed trench and DropBox housing (on the 4'9" through 5'3" sizes) that tucks the Foil Drive unit flush within the hull, lowering drag during displacement mode and keeping the battery mass closer to the rider's feet.

The board uses a full-wrap PVC and E-glass sandwich construction — a deliberate choice over carbon to maintain reliable 2.4 GHz signal transmission between the handheld remote and the in-hull receiver, even during duck dives. A Gore waterproof two-way vent, non-abrasive deck grip, and concaved deck with stance-reference markings round out the build.

Who It's For

The Boost targets riders who have committed to electric-assisted foiling and want a board shaped specifically for that purpose rather than adapting a wing or prone foilboard. It suits intermediate to advanced foilers comfortable with smaller-volume boards who want efficient flatwater starts, extended battery life, and clean transitions between powered cruising and unpowered wave riding or downwind glides. The 65-liter 5'6" offers more stability and float for heavier riders or those newer to Foil Drive, while the compact 35-liter 4'9" caters to lighter, more experienced riders prioritizing agility.

The hull shape — a fast-planing forward section with firm release edges and beveled rails — is tuned for quick lift-off under motor power and forgiving touchdowns when the board contacts the water during maneuvers. Riders focused on wave riding will benefit from the pulled-in nose and tail, which keep the outline tight for responsive turns on the foil.

In the Lineup

The Boost sits apart from North's main foilboard family, which includes the Seek (wing foiling), Swell (prone surf foil), and Midi (compact wing board), among others. Where those boards are optimized for wind- or wave-powered disciplines, the Boost is engineered exclusively around Foil Drive integration — its trench housing, signal-optimized layup, and thinner profile all serve that single objective. North pairs it with their Sonar UHM Carbon Integrated Foil Drive Mast for a matched system.

In the broader Foil Drive board market, the Boost competes with boards like the Armstrong FG Wing SUP adapted for Foil Drive use, but differentiates itself by being a ground-up Foil Drive design rather than a multi-discipline board with a retrofit option. Pricing starts at USD 1,549 for the 4'9" and scales to around USD 1,599 for the 5'6", positioning it in the mid-to-upper range for dedicated e-foil assist boards.
