Overview

The 2026 North Mode Pro Wing is North's high-speed performance freeride wing, built for riders who want to cover ground quickly while retaining the versatility to jump, boost, and cruise. This generation refines the strut shape, panel layout, and wingtip seam construction introduced in earlier versions, and adds Carbon UDi Technology — patent-pending unidirectional carbon tapes running the full length of the leading edge — for faster snapback and stiffer response under load. The airframe uses North's N-Weave45 material, a high-tensile woven fiber oriented at 45 degrees for biaxial and torsional rigidity, paired with a Matrix High-Load canopy designed for shape retention in higher-load scenarios.

The Mode Pro ships without handles or a boom. Instead, a full-length ShiftLock modular track runs the strut, letting riders mount carbon handles, a J-Handle, or a boom (all sold separately) in whatever position suits their stance and style. Included in the bag are a wrist leash, Sonar T40 tool, compression strap, repair kit, and sand anchor bag.

Who It's For

The Mode Pro targets intermediate-to-advanced wing foilers who prioritize speed and efficiency over pure low-end grunt. Its slightly flatter dihedral and reduced nose profile are tuned for forward thrust and stability at higher apparent wind speeds, making it a natural fit for riders chasing long downwinders, powered freeride runs, and boosted jumps with extended hangtime. The wing's broad stated wind range — down to 7 knots on the 6.5 m and up past 36 knots on the 3.5 m — gives experienced riders single-quiver potential across a wide conditions window.

Because the construction leans toward stiffness and durability rather than ultralight weight, the Mode Pro rewards riders who stay powered up. In lighter, marginal conditions where flagging the wing out is frequent, its heft can be more noticeable than that of lighter competitors. Riders who spend most sessions in moderate-to-strong wind and want a wing that locks in and accelerates cleanly will get the most from this design.

In the Lineup

Within North's 2026 wing range, the Mode Pro sits as the performance freeride flagship. The Nova Pro occupies a more wave-oriented, all-round position with greater low-end forgiveness, while the Mode Pro trades some of that easy grunt for higher top-end speed and more direct handling. North also offers the Mode Ultra at a higher price point for riders seeking the lightest possible construction. For buyers choosing between the two freeride options, the Mode Pro suits speed-focused freeriders and jumpers, whereas the Nova Pro leans toward surf-influenced riding and lighter-wind versatility.

Direct competitors include the Ozone Flux and CORE Halo Pro, both high-performance freeride wings with lighter bare weights but different handling characteristics. The Mode Pro distinguishes itself with the ShiftLock modularity and the stiffness delivered by its Carbon UDi leading edge.
