Overview
The 2026 North Nova Wing is North's flagship freeride wing, built for wing foiling across flatwater, chop, and surf conditions. Now in its latest iteration, the Nova receives a series of material and construction updates while retaining the balanced, approachable character the line is known for. North positions the Nova as a versatile all-round wing with broad wind range and direct forward drive, suitable for riders at multiple skill levels.
For 2026, North introduces its RS3 triple-ripstop canopy fabric, replacing the previous two-ply design. The updated canopy increases stiffness and improves load distribution without adding bulk. A carbon UDi stringer now extends from the center strut toward each wingtip, contributing to better shape retention during pumping and in gusty conditions. The wing ships with North's GripLock Carbon Boom, featuring an oval grip profile that allows flexible hand positioning during transitions.

Who It's For
The Nova targets one of the widest rider ranges in North's wing lineup. Beginners benefit from the wing's stable, forgiving handling and predictable power delivery when learning to get up on foil. Intermediate riders working on jibes, tacks, and general progression will find the smooth sheet-in response and neutral drift helpful during transitions. More experienced freeriders can push the Nova in stronger wind and swell, relying on its upwind efficiency and composed high-end control.
Condition-wise, North designed the Nova for everyday freeride sessions — flatwater cruising, choppy harbor sailing, and open-ocean bump runs. The RS3 canopy holds its profile well when flagged out, allowing cleaner drift during swell riding. The eight-size range (2.2m through 7.0m) covers a broad wind spectrum, from light-wind sessions on the larger 7.0m down to powered riding on the 3.5m or smaller.
In the Lineup
Within North's 2026 wing range, the Nova sits as the core freeride option. Above it, the Nova Pro uses lighter, stiffer canopy materials and North's ShiftLock boom system for riders seeking a more performance-oriented feel at a higher price point. Below the Nova in terms of specialization, the Loft targets dedicated light-wind riding, while the Mode Pro and Mode Ultra cater to freestyle and high-performance disciplines.
The Nova competes directly with other mid-price freeride wings such as the Duotone Slick and the Ensis Score. Compared to the Nova Pro, the standard Nova trades some weight savings and canopy rigidity for greater durability and a lower entry price, making it a practical choice for riders who want a capable wing they can use hard without worrying about material wear. The 2026 updates — RS3 canopy, carbon UDi stringer, and improved drift behavior — narrow the performance gap to the Pro model while keeping the Nova accessible.
