Overview

The North Midi Foilboard is a mid-length crossover design from North's 2025 wing foil lineup, built around a longer and narrower silhouette than conventional wing boards in similar volume classes. At 5'2" with 52 liters of volume and an 18.5-inch width, this size sits on the compact end of the Midi range and pairs a surfboard-inspired outline with foil-specific hull geometry. North describes the Midi as the most efficient board in their wingfoil collection, engineered for fast transitions onto foil across disciplines including wing foiling, prone foiling, and foil-assist riding.

The board uses a full carbon outer shell over PVC sandwich core, reinforced with E-glass at the foil mount area. A low-drag semi-displacement hull with medium rocker is designed to shed water progressively during takeoff, while soft rounded rails contribute to a surf-influenced ride feel. The deck features non-abrasive traction grip with built-in stance references, and North's DropBox Fast Foil Mounting system uses a 165x90mm track with centreline, offline, and V-strap insert options for customizable foot positioning.

Who It's For

The 52-liter Midi is aimed at intermediate to advanced wing foilers who are already comfortable getting up on foil consistently and want a board that rewards efficiency over raw stability. North positions the Midi as surfy rather than forgiving — riders who rely on high board volume for water starts or extended slogging may find the narrow outline challenging. This size suits lighter riders or experienced foilers in the roughly 60–80 kg range who prioritize a compact, low-swing-weight platform.

The Midi's crossover DNA also makes it relevant for riders who split sessions between wing foiling and prone surf foiling, or who use a Foil Drive assist setup. Its medium rocker and semi-displacement hull are tuned for efficient water release, which helps in lighter wind conditions where early liftoff matters. Riders looking for a dedicated wave-prone board or a pure race platform would be better served elsewhere in North's range.

In the Lineup

Within North's 2025 foilboard collection, the Midi occupies a crossover position between the Seek — a wider, more stability-oriented dedicated wing foilboard — and the Swell, which is purpose-built for prone surf foiling. The Midi bridges those two categories with its elongated mid-length shape, offering more glide and paddle-ability than compact wing boards while retaining the foil-mount versatility that pure prone shapes lack. North also offers the Vector for riders focused on high-speed wing foiling, and the Seek Prime as an entry-level learning platform, placing the Midi firmly in the performance-oriented middle of the range.

Buyers cross-shopping in this volume class may also consider boards like the Ensis Score or the F-One Rocket range, which take different approaches to the compact crossover concept. The Midi's distinguishing trait is its commitment to length-over-width as a design philosophy, resulting in a board that paddles and glides more like a short surfboard than a typical stubby wing board.
