Overview

The North Free Foil Strap Set is a pair of lightweight cushioned footstraps built for use on North foilboards. Part of North's current strap lineup, the Free Foil straps use a parallel-outline design for both the front and rear positions, with a centered configuration that allows entry from either rail. The outer shell features embossed PU leather over a stitchless inner made from KnitFlex 4-way stretch neoprene bonded to pre-shaped dual-density foam. North designed these straps to give riders a tactile reference point for foot placement, aiding take-offs and in-flight trimming.

An asymmetric washer system lets riders rotate each washer 180 degrees to loosen or tighten the fit without repositioning the strap on the board. Screws can also be torqued down for a locked-in feel or backed off slightly for more freedom of movement. The underside of each strap includes 3D-printed screw-hole reinforcement to reduce pressure points and improve durability. Elasticized neoprene screw covers are included to keep hardware protected.

Who It's For

North positions the Free Foil Strap Set toward riders who want a traditional two-strap setup with full adjustability. The brand highlights freestyle wingfoiling and aerial maneuvers as primary use cases, suggesting these straps suit intermediate to advanced foilers who benefit from a secure, locked-in connection to the board. The centered mounting option works well for riders who switch stance between tacks, since it permits entry from either side.

Because the straps accommodate both centered and offset positioning, they can serve a range of riding styles — from freeriding to more aggressive trick-oriented sessions. Riders who prefer a minimal, low-profile feel may want to look at North's Free-Lo straps instead, while those who frequently switch feet during tacks may prefer the V-shaped Free-V option.

In the Lineup

North currently offers four foilboard strap models: the Free Foil, Free-Lo, Free-V, and Free-V Lo. The Free Foil sits as the standard-profile, parallel-outline option in the range. The Free-Lo shares a similar parallel layout but uses a slimmer, lighter build aimed at prone foiling and kitesurfing as well as winging. The Free-V and Free-V Lo replace the parallel front strap with a V-shaped double strap that lets riders reposition their front foot without unbuckling — useful for tack-heavy sessions.

All four models are compatible with the same North foilboard family (Seek, Swell, Scoop, and Sense) and share the asymmetric washer adjustment system. The Free Foil Strap Set occupies the middle ground: more substantial than the Lo variants, more conventional than the V options, and broadly suited to wing foiling where a secure, cushioned connection is the priority.
