North Free Surf Strap Set

The North Free Surf Strap Set is a two-strap foot strap package designed for use on North's surf-style and foil-ready boards. Produced by North Action Sports Group, these straps pair a standard front strap with an asymmetric rear strap, giving riders a secure connection point for surfing, foiling, and freeride sessions. The set weighs 220 g and ships with all necessary mounting hardware, making it a straightforward upgrade or replacement for riders already on North decks.

The straps use what North calls a KnitFlex inner — a four-way stretch neoprene that is pre-tensioned, laminated, and bonded to a dual-density foam liner. The construction is stitchless on the foot-contact side to reduce pressure points. Externally, the straps are finished in black embossed PU leather, and each screw point features 3D-printed reinforcement on the underside for durability. Elasticized neoprene screw covers sit between the strap base and the board to shield feet from hardware contact.

An asymmetric washer system lets you rotate washers 180° to micro-adjust the strap opening, so riders with wider or narrower feet can dial in the fit without additional shims.

The rear strap has a flared outline that accommodates screw placement on either side of a rear fin box, broadening stance options. This makes the set useful for riders who like to experiment with foot positioning — wider for more surf-oriented control, or narrower and more centred for a freeride stance on a foil board.

The Free Foil version is tuned specifically for foil boards and uses a parallel front-and-rear strap layout, while the Free-V variant features a V-shaped front strap designed for easier foot switching during tacks. For riders on non-North boards, compatibility depends on screw-hole spacing; the included 6.3×25 mm self-tapping screws are a common size, but insert-mount boards from other brands may require different hardware. Competing surf strap sets from Duotone (the Entity Strap) and F-ONE occupy a similar price bracket and serve the same purpose, though each uses its own mounting geometry and foam density.
