Overview

The North Sonar Reflexed Front Wings are carbon hydrofoil front wings built around North's patent-pending reflexed-camber foil section. Designed by North foil engineer George Hadril, the Reflexed series uses a trailing edge that angles slightly upward rather than downward, generating localized downforce at the back of the wing. This built-in stabilizing effect reduces the pitch sensitivity common in traditional front wings, so riders spend less time adjusting body position as speed changes. The result is a wing that feels smaller and more responsive than its actual surface area suggests, while maintaining a wide usable speed range.

The Reflexed line is part of North's Sonar foil platform and is offered in multiple sizes, with the 1500R and 1850R available through most retailers. Both wings use pre-preg carbon construction for a high strength-to-weight ratio and ship with a wing cover and Sonar wing screw pack.

Who It's For

The Reflexed wings target intermediate to advanced riders who foil across multiple disciplines — kite foiling, wing foiling, and prone surf foiling — and want a single front wing that handles all three. The reflexed-camber profile keeps the ride predictable through a broad speed envelope, which also makes the larger 1850R a practical option for riders still building foil skills. North positions the 1850R as suitable for learning to foil thanks to its high lift and low stall speed, while the 1500R suits riders comfortable at higher speeds who want tighter, more carving turns in medium to larger waves.

Because the reflexed design reduces pitch sensitivity, heavier riders or those flying in lighter wind can size up to the 1850R without sacrificing top-end control. Lighter or more experienced riders looking for a snappier, more surf-oriented feel will generally prefer the 1500R.

In the Lineup

Within North's Sonar platform, the Reflexed series sits alongside the newer MA v2 line, which North describes as an evolution of the Reflexed concept tuned more specifically for wing foiling and boat foiling. The Reflexed wings remain the multi-discipline option in the catalog — equally at home behind a kite, under a wing, or in a prone surf setup. A larger 2200R also exists in the Reflexed family for dedicated light-wind use, sitting above the 1850R in surface area.

Riders comparing across brands will find the Reflexed wings occupy a similar niche to other mid-aspect, pitch-stable front wings designed for crossover use, such as those in the Axis and Armstrong mid-aspect ranges. The key differentiator is the reflexed trailing edge, which reduces reliance on stabilizer angle for pitch control and gives the wings their characteristically wide speed range.
